The new ID.3 in jersey look: the first car with the national team “Liibli”

The color red dominates on the Waisenhausplatz in Bern. She dominates on the new jerseys of the six players of the Swiss women’s national football team: Luana Bühler, Viola Calligaris, Alisha Lehmann, Seraina Piubel, Coumba Sow and captain Lia Wälti. And the red characterizes the cars they get into and drive through the city: it’s Volkswagen’s new all-electric ID.3* – specially wrapped for the occasion in the design of the new national team jersey.

“I just like red – and I like the mountains we see on the car and jersey,” says captain Lia Wälti. The implied mountain range is an important visual element of the national team’s new jersey, and the real Alps can even be admired particularly well from the ID.3 through the panoramic roof in the “Plus” exterior package. There are also parallels between the outfit and the car in terms of design. The clear lines give the new ID.3 a more mature face. With the sweater, it is the combination of mountains and elegant pinstripe design that leaves a noble impression.

Sustainability is important to the players

All national players are happy that the new ID.3 is an electric car. “That is very positive,” says Wälti, for example. The Nati stars’ delight at the all-electric vehicle shows that sustainability is important to the six athletes. The new ID.3 also lives up to the promise of the electric drive on the inside: the equipment is free of animal products and at the same time full of recycled materials.

In the case of the national team jersey, the fan jersey version is particularly sustainable: it is the world’s first jersey of this type manufactured by PUMA using the RE:FIBRE process. This means that new clothing is made from textile waste. Specifically, the fan shirt is made from 95 percent recycled polyester textile or production waste.

“It’s impressive how quiet it is in the car,” says midfielder Sow after the test drive. Volkswagen ambassador Luana Bühler has the most experience with fully electric models.

While legionnaires from England and Spain such as Lehmann, Wälti and Calligaris (soon in France) rarely drive from work to Switzerland due to the circumstances, Bühler does so more often. “I can get from Hoffenheim to Lucerne with one load” and in just over three hours, she explains. Privately, however, she drives the slightly larger model, the ID.4.

And because it’s so quiet in the car, as Coumba Sow says, the ID.3 is also perfect as a quiz car. Eight fans answer various questions from the players while riding in the backseat. Who coaches the Swiss national women’s team? How many players are on the field in a match? What is another word for penalty kick? What is the top speed of the ID.3?

The national stars such as Luana Bühler signed many autographs.

“As Nervous As We Are”

It’s an exciting morning for Viola Calligaris: “We’ve met people who were just as nervous as we were for the games. Only them for the quiz questions.” Contestant Pascal even knows all the answers – much to the amazement of his personal quizmaster Alisha Lehmann – as the winner he gets to drive for free for a year in a new, fully electric ID.3.

After driving out in the car, the players first have to settle in: they travel directly to the training camp in Magglingen – in preparation for the big tournament that takes place in Australia and New Zealand in July and August. In the hope that the color red will not only characterize Waisenhausplatz this morning – but also the games abroad.
