Gustavo Acosta is the surprise man in Bad Ragaz.

Argentina’s Gustavo Acosta leads the field of 60 at the 25th Swiss Seniors Open ahead of Sunday’s third and final round. The 52-year-old has not won a tournament on any circuit as a professional. On the par 70 course in Bad Ragaz he shone with rounds of 65 and 62 shots. With the 62, he missed the course record by just one shot.

Acosta, however, is far from sure. The Brazilian Adilson da Silva is only one shot behind. Two well-known former Ryder Cup players have been placed in the 4th intermediate tier with four strokes: the Swede Jarmo Sandelin and the Englishman Peter Baker, who won a tournament of the more than 50 professionals in Ireland two weeks ago by hand.

Bossert feels peak performance

After the 69 round at the start, André Bossert, the only Swiss player in the field, increased to 67 strokes. It could have gone a lot better. The long race could hardly have been better. He hit 17 of the 18 greens with the right shot. But over the entire loop, he missed birdies that would have been “doable.”

In the seven tournaments in Bad Ragaz in which he has participated since 2014, Bossert achieved 8th place as the best ranking. This twice, in 2015 and 2018. A new personal best is within reach for the man from Zurich this weekend. Renowned Swede Patrik Sjöland is currently in 7th place, three shots short of the final round. (SDA)
