“That really annoys me”: Kramer sentenced to look on the Rigi

It’s been a year since Lario Kramer from South-West Switzerland (turns 25 on Sunday) and Joel Wicki from Central Switzerland (26) faced each other in the final hike high on the Rigi, the “Queen of the Mountains”. At that time, the guest demanded everything from the king and repeatedly brought him into serious trouble. And after five minutes he was lying with his back in the sawdust. A feeling that the inhabitants of Fribourg know all too well.

Kramer has been standing in the last aisle at a wreath party 15 times. As the winner, however, he only left the field five times. There is not much missing at the absolute top. It’s the last few percent, the finishing touch, that the Galmizer (Murten) misses in these moments. Why that is, however, is difficult to explain. One thing is clear: the trained vegetable gardener is not a born tactician. “I’m just not one to swing security,” Kramer says of his not-so-glamorous balance. “I take a lot of risks. It often pays off, but sometimes I end up on my back.”

Forced to take a break on a birthday

So is it mental? Kramer says no. “I’m a competitive type, when it’s serious I often swing better than in training.” It irritates him, of course, that he has already missed so many successes by a hair. But burying his head in the sand is not his style, rather he is optimistic about the future. “I’ve never been one to make huge leaps from year to year. I give myself time, stay patient and gain experience. As long as I get better, I’m happy.” At Kramer, people move forward in small steps.

The coming weekend will be special for the Southwest Swiss. He will celebrate his 25th birthday on Sunday. He had actually wanted to celebrate on the Rigi after the work on the Schwingplatz had been completed. At best with a successful revenge in the last round and the second mountain festival victory of his career. Now nothing comes of it anymore. At the end of June he injured his shoulder in the northeast of Switzerland. “I love to swing, but now I have to keep quiet so as not to jeopardize the Unspunnen participation. The fact that I can’t participate in the Rigi-Schwinget really irritates me.” For the resident of Friborg, this means smaller steps and a little more patience in the near future.
