Sprint finish in Tour de France: Philipsen prevents Cavendish from record win

class=”sc-29f61514-0 fQbOYE”>

Jasper Philipsen shows it: in 2023 he will win a Tour de France stage for the third time.

Jasper Philipsen wins another flat stage of the Tour de France in Bordeaux. The Belgian also dominates the field in the third sprint finish this year.

This time, the 25-year-old finally caught Mark Cavendish. Ironically, Cavendish, who won in 2010 when the tour last stopped in Bordeaux. The 38-year-old Briton is keen to claim a 35th stage victory and become the sole record holder. He currently shares the record with Eddy Merckx. Now he finished second in the Tour for the 32nd time.

Ideally, the sprinters will have eight mass finishes in the Tour de France this year. The first three saw a clear winner in Philipsen. On Friday he easily caught Cavendish, who had apparently come out of the slipstream a little too early. Philipsen is good for a sprinter over the mountains. So he should be even stronger compared to his competitors for the daily wins in flat stages.

The general classification had no significant changes in the 7th stage. Last year’s winner Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark is still 25 seconds ahead of Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, who won in 2020 and 2021. (SDA)
