At the beginning of June, Samuel Giger (25) tore a muscle fiber during a workout. And that just a few days after he celebrated the first Kranzfest victory of the season on the Glarner-Bündner.
As a result, he missed the Northeastern Swiss wrestling festival and the Stoos-Schwinget, among others. But now the Thurgau is fit again and returns to the sawdust on the Rigi. Last year he missed the mountain classic due to a neck injury.
His first task? A steep one. In first gear he meets defending champion Joel Wicki (26). But: His record against the king is positive, he has never lost to him in five duels. Two wins versus three positions. Most recently, the two came together at the 2022 Basel-Stadt – Giger won by a flat throw.
