Bad news for the summer: Bayern dig into the Valencia goalkeeper

Manuel Neuer (37) returns after a long injury break and is likely to push Yann Sommer (34) out of the Bayern goal again. But that’s not all: because now the Munich team wants to get a new goalkeeper.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the German record champions are very interested in Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. The 22-year-old Georgian has been under contract with the Spaniards since January 2022 and impressed top clubs from all over Europe with his performances last season. Chelsea, Inter and Aston Villa would also be interested in the 1.99 meter tall goalkeeper.

Already in Munich?

But it should now be really concrete with Bayern: According to the Georgian portal “90min”, Mamardashvili is already in Munich with his adviser and holding talks. These should “run very positively”.

Since the Georgian national goalkeeper’s contract with Valencia runs until 2027, Bavaria would probably have to transfer around 25 million euros to Spain’s southeast coast. The player himself should be very open to a move to Munich.

Summer farewell in summer?

Not good news for Yann Sommer: should Mamardashvili actually come, Bayern would hardly keep the Swiss national goalkeeper. Inter Milan and VfB Stuttgart are traded again as possible interested parties.

The escape clause in Sommer’s contract was only recently revealed. He can only leave Bayern under the following three conditions: if Manuel Neuer becomes number 1; if the losing club pays the same nine to ten million euros that Bayern paid for the Swiss; and if the player and the club mutually agree.
