Even though Roger Federer hasn’t set foot on a tennis court as a pro for a long time, he still inspires the masses.
When the 41-year-old performed as a special guest in the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Tuesday, the spectators on Center Court were unstoppable. Cheers, standing ovations, big emotions. The same goes for Sunday before, when Federer thrilled fans with a guest appearance at the Letzigrund in Zurich during the Coldplay concert.
In Zurich, at least, the maestro almost never appeared. As Roger Federer explains in an interview with the British “BBC”, it took some persuasion to get the 20-time Grand Slam champion on the podium.
Federer describes how he read the message aloud over dinner and asked him to appear on Coldplay. At first he wasn’t thrilled about it at all. But then one of King Roger’s daughters spoke to his conscience: “‘Of course you go there, after all you only live once!’ It was a bit like my mom was telling me something,” Federer says with a laugh.
It was well worth it, as Roger Federer had to admit in the BBC interview. “We had a great time.” You can tell: the maestro enjoys the time after his active career to the fullest. Justifiably. (cat)
