Shock for the Swiss national women’s team. Super talent Iman Beney (16) tore a cruciate ligament during the last training before the last exhibition match before the World Cup against Morocco.
The YB women’s player will miss the World Cup in New Zealand and Australia, which will take place from July 20 to August 20. In last Friday’s friendly match against Zambia (3:3), the youngster shone with an assist and Beney would have become the youngest Swiss World Cup player of all time.
National coach Inka Grings reacted to the bitter failure and nominated Amira Arfaoui. The 23-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen did not survive Monday’s last selection. Now she rejoins the team on Tuesday evenings.
