The email is dated June 22, 2023. Written by FCZ President Ancillo Canepa. He informed his close associates that after the departure of sports director Marinko Jurendic, player advisor Milos Malenovic would make an analysis in the field of “transfer / talent development”.
Malenovic will “take a close look at our processes between July and October and, in particular, talk to people directly or indirectly involved in this area,” Canepa writes. Malenovic could also be used “if necessary for the current transfer window on a mandate basis”.
It is not surprising that the FCZ president’s decision caused a stir in the Swiss player consultant scene. Countless people complain behind closed doors, mock, exclaim. Christoph Graf, president of the Swiss Football Agents Association (SFAA), stands up publicly and says on behalf of many of his colleagues: “There is a risk of a conflict of interest. I’ve had a lot of concerned calls from the industry.”
According to the tenor, it is problematic that Malenovic, who counts Nati-shooting star Zeki Amdouni among his clients, is also a player advisor and a club advisor. This includes a competitive advantage. And that Malenovic gets insights that other player advisors would be denied. With Fidan Aliti (29), Antonio Marchesano (32), Mirlind Kryeziu (26), Nils Reichmuth (21) and Ramon Guzzo (18), five Malenovic clients are currently under contract with FCZ.
When asked about a possible conflict of interest, FCZ boss Ancillo Canepa replies: “What nonsense. Milos is not employed, but has a clearly defined advisory mandate. It involves the analysis of procedures and processes. There were three criteria for me when choosing a consultant: competence, experience and integrity. Milos meets these criteria and that is why we have given him this assignment. Where there should be a conflict of interest here is beyond me. I think there are other reasons if the consultant scene is really in turmoil.”
Canepa receives support from the Swiss Football League (SFL). When asked, the latter states that the mandate according to the regulations is problem-free.
