In the Italian Serie A, the radio messages between referees and video assistants in controversial scenes will be published in the future.
“We want the greatest possible transparency,” said Gabriele Gravina, head of the Italian association. There is an agreement with streaming service DAZN for the pilot project.
The referee conversations will not be broadcast live for the time being, but will be published after the match days. In this way, the competition wants to show how difficult it is for referees to reach a decision despite the video images and consultation with the VAR assistant.
The Italian league is announcing something that has been discussed for a long time and that was done for the first time in England last season, for example. In Switzerland, that is not yet planned for next season, but referees should be able to stand in front of the microphone more often after the game and explain their decisions. (SDA/dti)
