Now he keeps Paderborn in suspense: Max Kruse’s scandal files

Max Kruse (35) disappeared from the football fields of the world for almost a year. Now he has found a new club. The former German international will play at SC Paderborn in the 2nd Bundesliga next season.

It puts itself in the spotlight right from the first use. In the friendly against the regional league team Wuppertaler SV, Kruse fell into the field after the break and prepared the 2-1 winner with the decisive pass in the 70th minute.

With the surprise transfer to Paderborn, the player known for his scandals is not making headlines for the first time.

In 2009, a video circulated on Facebook. Max Kruse can not only be seen half naked, he also raps as MC Max about sex practices and prostitutes. An action that almost cost the ex-player of FC St. Pauli his career.

Kruse is a football player who likes to attract attention. Not necessarily on, but also off the field. In 2013 he bought a camouflage Maserati. His fans did not like the vehicle at all and it was called the ugliest car in the world on social media.

In November 2013, Germany played against England. Before the ball rolled, Kruse would have received ladies’ visitors at the team hotel. Something that is contrary to the code of conduct of the German Football Association. And it ensured that he was removed from the World Cup squad five months later by the then DFB coach Jogi Löw. Kruse was thus stripped of the world title.

Off the lawn, Kruse is not only a gifted but also a successful poker player. In June 2015 he won 36,000 euros in Las Vegas, four months later in Berlin 75,000 euros. Too bad he left this prize in a taxi on the way home. Kruse filed a complaint – without success. And not only that: the case became public, his then club VfL Wolfsburg got wind of it and would have imposed a fine of 25,000 euros on him.

Max Kruse celebrated his 28th birthday in March 2016 in a Berlin nightclub. When he noticed that a woman was photographing him unsolicited, he became angry. He snatched the cell phone from her hand and deleted the photos. The next day the case made the German tabloid press, because the woman was a reporter for “Bild”. This had far-reaching consequences for Kruse. Jogi Löw eventually kicked him out of the national team.

After working in St. Pauli, SC Freiburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, VfL Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen, Max Kruse moved abroad in 2019. He signed a three-year contract with Turkish club Fenerbahce Istanbul. But the time together ended before then. In March 2020, Kruse terminated his contract for allegedly missing salary payments and filed a lawsuit with FIFA. Club and player parted ways in a dispute, Kruse was presented with a counterclaim. FIFA decided in favor of Kruse, talks with Fenerbahce followed and the dispute was settled.

After his adventure in Turkey, Kruse found a new club in Union Berlin. He first made headlines there in October 2020 when he streamed online how he played a video game late into the night. Not only did he do this until after midnight the next morning, despite training, but the cluttered apartment in the background also became a problem for the fans.

That same month, Kruse challenged his followers on Instagram to play cards against him in a bar. In fact, some followed his call – despite increasing corona figures, they played with him without a mask.

In the spring of 2021, Kruse’s girlfriend Dilara Mardine was racially insulted by a fan. Kruse vented his anger on Instagram, the fan apologizing to no avail. It wasn’t until he received death threats from other fans that Kruse relented and ended the whole thing saying, “I think he’s learned his lesson and realized his mistake.”

Shortly afterwards, Kruse was allowed to participate in the Olympic Games with the German national team. On camera, he proposed to his girlfriend, who had never traveled to Japan. She replied via Instagram with yes, the wedding will take place in December 2021.

At the end of January 2022, Kruse surprisingly left Union Berlin and returned to Wolfsburg. A step that did not pay off. Because time together ended in September. In a pitch interview with Sky, coach Niko Kovac announced the striker’s exclusion. “We saw no impulses from Max. So as a coach you have to see the club. That’s why we made the decision: he won’t be around in the future and definitely won’t play again,” he said. At the press conference that followed, he confirmed his decision.

Shortly after being ejected from Wolfsburg, Kruse took an even worse turn. His Lamborghini worth around 300,000 euros was stolen. His wife drove it to run errands and wanted another appointment afterwards. Instead, the shock: the car was gone! “I just went completely crazy. I was exhausted, I was crying,” she said on the couple’s YouTube channel. After all, the car turned up again the next day. Two blocks from the crime scene, driver’s window smashed.

In January 2023, when Kruse had no idea that he would sign a contract with Paderborn five months later, he was traveling with his wife. He was driving, she was doing an Instagram story, when suddenly there was a flash. But not because of an approaching thunderstorm, but because Kruse drove too fast. His wife couldn’t believe what had just happened.
