Self-critical Christian Wohlwend: “I was not correct – I was not respectful”

Christian Wohlwend will coach HC Ajoie next season. The ink on the contract has been dry for a week. The 46-year-old from Engadine previously coached HC Davos for three and a half years before being released in January this year.

Wohlwend is a man who polarizes. He convinced athletically. After the crash at the end of the long era of Arno Del Curto (66), Wohlwend got the HCD back on track surprisingly quickly. In addition, his emotional outbursts – towards officials or also in the internal circle – were always a problem and became a stumbling block for Wohlwend.

In the latest documentary in the series “Inside Plus” on MySports entitled “Christian Wohlwend – open and honest”, the impulsive native of Graubünden is very self-critical. After his release in Davos, the Engadine resident retreated to Mexico for five weeks to reflect on himself as a person and as a hockey coach.

“There were situations that were too many”

In Sven Schoch’s work, which premieres Friday night, June 30 at 8:30 p.m. on MySports, Wohlwend says, among other things: “There were two or three situations with players who were too much. I was too loud, too impulsive, just not correct. You can also say disrespectfully. I have to do better.” It used to be normal to communicate this way, nowadays it is a different age and a different generation. He also said that he failed to live up to his role as a role model several times and vowed to improve.
