Will there be a third vote on the planned football stadium on the Hardturm site due to the “River Protection Initiative”? According to the city council, which rejects the initiative and submits a counter-proposal, the answer is: no!

A press release states: “The city council assumes that the citizens’ initiative, if accepted, will not affect the realization of already approved construction projects and planning instruments approved by the city council, as well as pending appeals against them.” So hope for everyone who longs for a football stadium in the city of Zurich.

Almost 5000 signatures

The initiators see the banks in the city under threat and “want to protect the Limmat and the banks of the lake against high-rise and huge buildings: green banks as local recreational areas for the population and habitat for fauna and flora instead of soil cover, shade and overuse” , they write on their website. 4772 people have signed the initiative.

Two ‘ensemble’ high-rises are planned for the stadium project on the Hardturm site. They finance the stadium. The two previous referenda each ended with a yes in the ballot box. The Super League clubs FC Zürich and GC currently play their home games at the Letzigrund Stadium. (yup)
