SRF expert Plaschy is behind the crazy idea: young skiers now have to go to the swing cellar

The ski landscape in Valais is turned upside down this summer!

Didier Plaschy (50) is the Gyro Gearloose of Swiss skiing. With self-created and unusual training methods, the slalom champion (two World Cup victories in the winter of 1999/2000) mainly formed Ramon Zenhousen (31) and Daniel Yule (30). Ten years ago, as a trainer of the Swiss Ski Futere team, Plaschy regularly attached the two to his car with their roller skis. In this way, riding on one leg should be trained.

During this phase, Plaschy’s protégés also regularly skied from a carpeted ski facility. “My athletes get an optimal technical school on this carpet, the speed can be varied very well here.”

As a trainer at the regional performance center in Valais, Plaschy relies on the mobile ski carpet system again this summer. At the same time, the 50-year-old lets his ski talents eat sawdust once a week in the Visper Schwingkeller. “Due to global warming, we have to assume that we will no longer be able to ski on the glaciers in the summer in the future. That’s why I have to outsource the training even more to other sports.”

Plaschy is heavily breaded

Plaschy has found what he thinks is the perfect partner in the Schwingklub Oberwallis. “Other sports associations were very reluctant to work with us, while the wrestlers immediately agreed to work together. Swinging and skiing also go so well together, because both sports are mainly about not falling over.”

And that’s why Plaschy and his ski kids are working towards a very bad goal. “By the summer, the 23 children of our RLZ should be ready to put on their thongs at a regional wrestling festival.”

Plaschy himself no longer wants to participate, but the SRF ski expert also faces the traditional duel in training – he joins forces with Mario Stübe, the technical director of the Obervalais swing club, in the “last course”. Result: Plaschy is breaded like a Wiener schnitzel with an exemplary «Stübe-Schlungg».
