The Swiss extreme athlete Isa Pulver wins the final classification of the Race Across America in a superior way. She is only the second woman to outperform all male competitors.
The resident of Bern reached the destination on the American west coast on Friday afternoon. It took the 52-year-old 9 days, 12 hours and 16 minutes for the nearly 5,000 kilometers and 55,000 vertical meters across the US.
In the race’s 41-year history, only one woman managed to cross the finish line ahead of her male competition. However, when Canada’s Leah Goldstein won in 2021, the field was significantly smaller due to Covid entry rules. This and the fact that Pulver suffered a cerebral haemorrhage a year ago, make the success all the more remarkable.
For Isa Pulver it is the second victory at the Race Across America after 2015. Pulver’s compatriot Nicole Reist won last year. (SDA)
