“You disgust us”: DFB directs clear words to racists

That’s German and clear. Following the fierce commentary hostilities against Youssoufa Moukoko (18) and other players in Germany’s U21s, the German Football Association (DFB) has publicly commented on the incidents.

“You are disgusted with us,” the football association writes in a statement on social media about the hostility and support its players. He accuses the racists of not being real fans and describes German football as “colourful, open and diverse”. He also threatens any individual with criminal consequences, writing, “We don’t need you. We don’t want you.” They end it with a declaration of war: “You will never win. We are more.”

Clear words also from those affected

Moukoko himself had already responded to the incidents after the game saying: “The comments are ugly, they hurt. If we win, we are all Germans, if we lose, we are blacks, then the monkey comments come. That kind of thing just don’t belong in football. We don’t shoot on purpose. That’s disgusting.”

He demands a response and wants to fight against such people. “At the end of the day, these are just people who have nothing to do,” says Moukoko. “We all bleed the same blood, we really need to lead by example.” And that is exactly what the DFB has done with the clear words.

U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo (44) was also shocked and deeply touched by the intensity of the comments. “The boys are German through and through and proud to play for Germany,” says the coach. “I think it’s absurd if you anonymously insult someone racist or in general on social media.” (nsa)
