New sponsor?: Saudis want to take over the best cycling team in the world

class=”sc-29f61514-0 jbwksb”>

Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard (in yellow) and Wout van Aert (in green) are under contract with Jumbo-Visma.

The most successful cycling team in the world is said to be about to be taken over by financiers from Saudi Arabia.

Jumbo-Visma will be sponsored by the Saudi urban development project Neom City from next year, according to a report by Dutch journalist Raymond Kerckhoff. There is no confirmation from Jumbo-Visma, but no denial either.

The supermarket chain Jumbo had announced that it would withdraw as the main sponsor. Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard, Giro winner Primoz Roglic and classic star Wout van Aert ride for Jumbo-Visma. Neom City is probably the largest architectural project in the world. The project is funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. (SDA)
