After the dismissal of the Czech Filip Pesan last season, Ajoie sports director Julien Vauclair (43) stepped in as a firefighter for the second time and managed to stay at the top in Extremis. Nevertheless, the Jura is looking for a successor for next season. And this could now be found. According to information from Blick, talks with Christian Wohlwend are at an advanced stage. “That’s correct. But nothing has been signed yet,” Vauclair said of the rumours.

Wohlwend was the last coach of HC Davos from 2019 to 2023, in January he was fired from the Bündner. The 46-year-old previously worked as a coach for the U20 national team and also worked as an assistant to Patrick Fischer in the A-Nati from 2016 to 2022. He participated in four World Championships and two Olympic Games.

In his three years with HCD, Wohlwend led the Davos team to places 3, 8 and 5. In 2022, the team from the Landwassertal reached the semi-finals of the play-offs under his leadership and in 2020 he was also in the cup last. This was then lost against Ajoie of all men.

Biel was also interested

Wohlwend first became acquainted with the National League at HC Lugano in 2013 as an assistant coach and briefly as an interim coach. Among other things, he trained current Ajoie sports director Julien Vauclair for the Ticino team. Wohlwend was also a candidate for the position of coach at EHC Biel for a long time, but the number two decided against the Engadin.

In the Jura, Christian Wohlwend could now succeed his former player. In the coming season, Ajoie has a higher budget at its disposal. Earlier in the week they announced the arrival of defender Eric Gelinas and attacker Daniel Audette. The two Canadians move from Bern and Lausanne to the Jura.
