Stefanos Tsitsipas is preparing for Wimbledon in Halle, but is eliminated in the eighth finals.

“We have a connection that reaches to the soul. I am very happy with her,” tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas (24, ATP 5) enthuses about his relationship with Paula Badosa (25, WTA 33). Only recently, after leaving the French Open without sound and without sound, did the The Greek and the Spaniard have gone public with their relationship, including a joint Instagram account, and he tells Eurosport he has never felt such a connection.

He is happy to have a partner who understands that he needs to focus on his career and himself for the next 15 years. The fact that they both have the same ambitions and lifestyle makes the relationship easier.

“He’s Everything to Me”

When asked about his father, the 2023 Australian Open finalist emphasizes how important he is to him. “He is sober and knows that he is not perfect, like me. That brings us much closer,” says Tsitsipas. “For me, he even quit his job when I was twelve.”

After parting ways with Mark Philippoussis (46) in May, Apostolos Tsitsipas (55) is currently the head coach of the Greek. That is exactly what Boris Becker (55) recently criticized in a podcast. He believed that Tsitsipas would help an ex-pro win a Grand Slam. “He is not just a coach. He has the knowledge and has worked with professionals for me and he knows what he is doing. He belongs to me,” counters the number five in the world. “He is everything to me. And I don’t like the hustle and bustle with so many people on the coaching team, it upsets me mentally.”

Grand Slam triumph and criticism of Netflix

About his narrowly missed Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open (lost to Novak Djokovic in three sets), Tsitsipas says: “In the past I may have been too much of a burden, I wanted such a title so badly.” But now he has grown up and decided for himself that he will continue to pursue the goal, but he does not have to be so stubborn. “I keep trying, but if it doesn’t work, it’s not the end of the world,” says the 24-year-old. “I’d rather be a happy person than have 10 or 20 Grand Slam titles but feel bad or feel like my life has no meaning.”

This maturation process in Greek can also be seen in the reactions to his opinion of the Netflix series “Break Point”. Tsitsipas sees the series as “a soap opera that shows the wrong sides of tennis”. So there is more focus on drama than on the hard work and mental wear and tear that tennis entails. “I’m not the only player who sees it that way. You did a bad job. You could have shown so much more and better.”

Asked about his own drama with Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon last year – which will also be featured in the second season – he says: “It wouldn’t hurt if it went public again. I lost myself there and learned my lessons from it.” Kyrgios got into his head and he acted very immature at the time. He was aware that something like this could happen again, but now he knew how to deal with it. (nsa)
