In mid-May, Sion goalie Heinz Lindner (32) made the shock diagnosis of testicular cancer public. “I was recently diagnosed with a tumor in my left testicle. You can imagine that this diagnosis hit me hard,” he wrote on Instagram at the time.

Lindner has now provided an update on the ORF program “Sport am Sonntag”. After the operation, he felt the scar on his stomach. ‘She was very sensitive. It was very tense and very painful. But now I don’t feel anything anymore, I can move normally again.” The Austrian is doing so well that he will soon return to training.

“There will be more checks in a few days,” says Lindner. “It looks like I can start training again on June 22 at my club Sion with the start of the preparation.” He is aware that he will not be able to start from zero to a hundred. Together with the physiotherapists, he will work out a plan and see how it goes.

Sporting situation not the most desirable

However, he leaves open whether Lindner will play in the Challenge League with relegated Sion. His goal is to return to the national team as soon as possible. The sporting situation is not the most desirable for this. But Lindner also emphasizes that he and his wife are very comfortable in Wallis and that he still has a contract for the next two years. “We’ll see what comes.”

He not only has big plans for his sporting future. Lindner would like to continue to speak openly about his illness. “Maybe I can encourage one man or the other to get to an exam on time.” Because Lindner himself put it off for a long time. “I had an irregular appetite for a year,” he reveals. “My wife then advised me to go for a check.” Fortunately, in time before the tumor could grow or metastasize.
