After 13 years, the 60-year-old is relinquishing his majority stake to a group led by investment bankers Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall. According to ESPN, the entire franchise is worth about $3 billion. How much of that ends up in Jordan’s pockets is not clear.
Plotkin has owned shares in the Hornets since 2019 and Schnall is currently still a co-owner of the Atlanta Hawks, the team of Swiss Clint Capela. Jordan would remain with the Hornets as a minority shareholder.
Charlotte has made the playoffs only twice (in 2014 and 2016) since Jordan took control of the North Carolina state franchise for $275 million in 2010, finishing in the first round both times. (SDA)
