New details about the gymnastics vortex: a letter from an athlete who brought down the head coach

class=”sc-29f61514-0 jbwksb”>

She was forced to leave STV in May: head coach Wendy Bruce-Martin. Now new details are coming to light.

It is a letter-form appeal for help. Written by a large part of the national gymnastics team. At the end of April, the team wrote to gymnastics union bosses that there were “fatal grievances in the coaching team”. In addition, according to a report from the SRF news format “10vor10”, the letter should also contain reports of severe pain due to unprofessional training and injuries that the coaches did not take seriously.

“Such (mis)acting on the part of the two trainers (…) we cannot understand and question their professional competence,” it said. In addition, there would be permanent disputes in the coaching staff.

Conflict between the coaching duo

The revelation of the athlete’s letter sheds new light on the rifts at STV in late May between head coach Wendy Bruce-Martin and assistant coach Craig Tetreault. The duo from the USA seemed to have to leave mainly because of the team’s disappointing 17th place at the European Championship in mid-April.

Now it seems to be due to a conflict between the two, which was felt even by the gymnasts in their daily work, according to the letter. Three years after the gymnastics scandal around the “Magglingen Protocols” there is now a problem in the coaching team. The dismissed trainer duo did not comment on SRF, the presumption of innocence applies.

Gymnastics association shoots against contribution SRF

The STV, on the other hand, writes in a statement that the allegations have been taken very seriously and have been included in an extensive analysis. There was also cooperation with the STV Ethics Committee and the Swiss Sports Integrity Foundation (SSI), which is responsible for ethical violations, was notified as a precaution.

And the gymnastics federation shoots against the report of the SRF. “The STV strongly disapproves of the SRF’s approach of sending content that was confidentially addressed to a very small internal circle for investigative purposes – without the athletes’ knowledge and against their will – to various people who were unaware of it The athletes expressly refuse to publish or use the content, which SRF has been informed several times.” (red)
