A few days before the start of the U21 European Championship, there was a bang in the national training camp. As announced by Blick, national coach U21 Patrick Framework (54) will be the new coach at FC Winterthur. Frame and the Swiss Football Association (SFV) have agreed that the Basel player will continue to look after the U21s during the European Championship and will only join the Super League club afterwards. “My focus is currently solely on the upcoming finals. We will do everything we can to make it a great tournament.”
How did the SFV respond to Frame’s request? Was it a shock? Nati director Pierluigi Tami (61) about Blick: “It certainly wasn’t a shock. We all know how this company works.” That’s why there is no bad blood, Tami continues.
The SFV has taken note of the frame’s decision. There was also no discussion about releasing the space for people who want to migrate for the European Championship. “We want to end this campaign with him. And Patrick too.”
Tami, who was himself a club and U21 national coach during his career, can also understand Frame’s wishes for the future in a sense. “Club and national coaches are two completely different job profiles. As a national coach you spend most of your time watching players and visiting clubs. You only work on the field during national team dates. Patrick wants to be on the lawn more.”
Even before the Blick report on the departure of the SFV frame was officially confirmed, a number of coaches applied for the vacant post. But Tami wants to take his time. “Before we get into names, we are going to define a profile. But now the entire focus of the EM applies.”
