As far as transfers are concerned, FCZ only seems to be silent, Lugano defender Fabio Daprelà (32) is the only move so far. Behind the scenes, however, an unexpectedly hot transfer summer threatens.

The reason: According to information from Blick, Jonathan Okita (26) and Nikola Katic (26) are two regular players who plan to leave the squad for the upcoming season.

The FCZ is relaxed when it comes to Okita and Katic. Sports director Marinko Jurendic tells Blick: “We have no pressure. Normal conversations are taking place with the two players to define mutual expectations for the new season.” It is also about the prospects in a season without a European Cup, which is an important billboard for foreign players.

The duo has contracts until 2025

Of course, this also applies to this duo: if an offer from another club would be suitable for all parties, a transfer would be an option. Katic’s profile as a defense tower in particular has always been sought after in the market.

Both players joined the then champion last summer, both have a contract until 2025. Both were team pillars in the strong second half of the season. Okita, the winger who grew up in the Paris banlieues with German, Belgian and Congolese passports, became the second best FCZ scorer of the season behind Knipser Aiyegun Tosin (24) with seven goals and three assists. Katic worked his way up to defensive head and team leader pretty quickly.

What happened to Okita before the Basel game?

But with Tosin out through injury, Okita also fell into a bear market. At the beginning of May there seems to be a break. Coach Bo Henriksen takes the wing out of the squad for the game in Basel, in the remaining rounds he is just a joker. Did something happen that made the Congolese want to leave? Jurendic judged negatively that Henriksen only consistently called after the training performance in the week before the FCB match.

Zurich wants to keep Okita and Katic. A transfer, on the other hand, is aimed at Tosin with an expiring contract in 2024. The Benin national player can take the next step from an amount of around 2 million francs.
