As of Sunday, Schurter is the absolute best mountain biker in history, even on paper. With the grandiose home win at the World Cup in Lenzerheide, the Graubünden took the 34th win of his career and now he is also the sole record holder in this category. He was already a record world champion (10 titles) and a record overall world cup winner (8), plus the complete set of Olympic medals.

The home race had more priority than the World Cup

But what follows now? Schurter was motivated by the hunt for the 34th win to continue training and riding at the highest level at the age of 37. Schurter’s old Scott team principal Thomas Frischknecht confirms: “Going back to victory in his home race was a higher priority this season than the World Championships in Glasgow.”
