Now there is sad certainty: Norwegian biathlon talent Eivind Sporaland (†22) is dead.
“It is heavy news. But for the relatives and for us it is a relief that he has been found. They have received answers and it is good that we can give them. That is our job,” said the responsible detective Ragnhild Ouren.
According to the autopsy report, Sporaland had fractures suggestive of a fall from a great height. Ouren said last week there was no evidence of foul play and police assumed it was an accident.
The biathlon talent disappeared without a trace in Lillehammer on March 19. There was a long search in the surrounding forest for Sporaland. Since there was still a lot of snow at the time of the search and it continued to snow, the search turned out to be laborious and without results. In early June, a hiker finally reported to the police that he had found a body.
At first it was unclear whether the deceased found was actually the Norwegian biathlete. Circumstantial evidence, such as clothing, however, pointed to Sporaland. The autopsy confirmed the suspicions. (mbi)
