Only three teams better than 2022

Interesting is the points comparison after seven races (see box). The clear winner is Aston Martin, which scored 127 more points in 2023. Only Red Bull (+52) and Mercedes (+18) are among the winners. Ferrari (-99) experienced the deepest crash, McLaren (-42) and Alfa-Sauber (-33) were also a lot better in 2022.

Happy Birthday Jackie Stewart

On Sunday 11 June, two popular pilots celebrate their birthdays. Jackie Stewart turns 84 and Jean Alesi turns 59. The Frenchman celebrated his only win in a Ferrari on his 31st birthday in 1995. And Alesi delivered that feat in Montreal. Where the GP circus makes its eighth stop.

Clean has seen it all

The island track at the 1976 Olympic Rowing Pool is popular with riders. And Sauber experienced ups and downs, joys and sorrows in the Canadian metropolis. Yes, in 1994, when the record-breaking Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup for the 24th and final time, many team members were there live. In 2007, Kubica survived one of Sauber’s worst accidents there, while team-mate Heidfeld finished second. Because the next 20 races together brought only 12 points. The fans wonder: will the turning point come again? Interesting that Bottas (“I was almost a prisoner at Mercedes for almost five years”) now enjoys complete freedom, even organizing his own cycling races – after his worst Formula 1 result of all time a week ago! The saddest moment for Sauber ten years ago in Canada: when the Gutierrez car was recovered after the race, a marshal was run over by an excavator.
