The club of 100 keeps getting smaller: five swinging dinosaurs survive King Stucki

Together with his son Thomas (left), Stefan Burkhalter, the oldest active wrestler, would like to win another wreath.

Thomas Sempach – 115 wreaths

Christian Stucki and Thomas Sempach (38), who was four days younger, faced each other again and again when he wrestled with boys. Their careers are closely linked. The Emmental won its 100th crown in 2019 at the same festival site in Lyss BE, where Stucki says goodbye on Sunday. However, he cannot estimate how long Sempach will continue to swing. Family and farm demand a lot. “But swinging is a great passion. As long as it goes well, I will continue.”

Stefan Burkhalter – 112 wreaths

Stefan Burkhalter (48) is on a farewell tour, just like King Stucki. On Sunday he joins forces with Stucki in first gear on Seeland. But the swinging dinosaur wants to keep going until it stops spinning. De Thurgau still has one big goal in mind: to collect a wreath from the northeast of Switzerland together with his son Thomas (20). It would be a reward for the father-son team.

Christian Schuler – 111 wreaths

If you look at Christian Schuler’s (35) website or his social media, you might get the idea that the Schwyzer has long since left, it is that quiet there. But the now independent marketing expert is far from satisfied: “Wrestling is my passion and still has great meaning in my life.” As long as he can swing around the wreath, he’ll keep going.

Florian Gnägi – 108 wreaths

The Seelander was always overshadowed by his childhood friend Christian Stucki. That suited him. “I begrudge Chrigu all his successes.” When Stucki gives his derniere in Lyss BE on Sunday, the currently injured Florian Gnägi (34) will stand behind him and cheer him on as a coach. However, he does not want to follow the king into retirement: “Hopefully a final federal 2025 is still possible.”

Kilian Wenger – 104 Wreaths

Even before the last ESAF in Pratteln BL, the king of 2010 was toying with the idea of retiring. But after the big event, Kilian Wenger (33) changed his mind: Wenger also wants to enter the ring at the highlight of the 2023 season, the Unspunnen-Schwinget. It remains to be seen whether the Diemtigtal will continue for another season after that.
