A disbelieving Faith Kipyegon runs the 5,000 meters to set a new world record in the first race over the distance in eight years.

Simon Ehammer (23) is back with a good performance at the meeting in Paris. In the long jump, the actual decathlete reaches the podium in second place. The Appenzeller jumps 8.11 m in the fourth of his six attempts and misses the first win at a Diamond League meeting by just two centimeters. The Swiss only has to admit defeat to the Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou (25).

Ehammer has therefore succeeded in carrying out the desired repair. Most recently he had disappointed with three failed attempts at the meeting in Götzis, Austria. In Paris, all attempts are valid and move between 7.88 and 8.13 meters.

Joseph with starting problems

Jason Joseph (24) cannot quite build on his strong performance in Florence in Paris. The man from Basel finished seventh in the final over 110 m hurdles. With a time of 13.29, Joseph remains one hundredth above his Swiss record from last week. Just like in the semi-finals, he also does not get off to an optimal start in the final and has to let his opponents go. American Grant Holloway (12:98) wins the race beating Frenchman Just Kwaou-Mathey (13:09). With his compatriot Wilhem Belocian (5th), a second European Joseph takes the lead.

Two new long distance world records

Faith Kipyegon (29) sets another world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Paris. The Kenyan runs the 5000 meters – her first race over the distance in eight years – in 14:05.20 minutes, over a second faster than Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey (25), who set the record in 2020 (14:06.62 ). At the meeting in Florence a week ago, Kipyegon already set a world record in the 1500m.

Olympic silver medalist Lamecha Girma (22) set the world record over 3000 m steeplechase at the Diamond League meeting in Paris. In 7:52.12 minutes, the Ethiopian clearly breaks the previous record time (7:53.63). (SDA/nsa)
