The Tour de Suisse takes place every year in June.

What is the Tour de Suisse?

The Tour de Suisse is Switzerland’s largest cycling race, first held in 1933. It is considered the most important stage race among the “Big Three” Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España. As a rule, it consists of eight stages and takes place in early June. The Tour de Suisse became part of the UCI ProTour in 2005 and has been part of the follow-up series, the UCI WorldTour, since 2011.

Many riders use the Tour de Suisse to prepare for the Tour de France, which traditionally starts two weeks later. That’s why the top players of the cycling world always participate.

The overall leader wears the yellow jersey.

Tour of Switzerland women

Since 2021 there is also a Tour of Switzerland for women. This is a lot shorter than that of the men, this year there are four stages. When it premiered, there were two more. Like last year, it overlaps with the final two days of the men’s Tour de Suisse, which takes place from June 17 to 20. New for the 2023 edition: for the first time, the Tour de Suisse Women is part of the highest race category for women, the UCI Women’s World Tour.

The overlap with the last two days of the men’s Tour de Suisse is deliberate and saves money.

From a Swiss point of view, the biggest asset for stage victories or even overall victory is Marlen Reusser.

Teams and riders Tour de Suisse men

Not all teams have yet nominated their drivers for the Tour de Suisse 2023. But there will be some big names. World road champion Remco Evenepoel makes his comeback on the tour. He recently had to leave the Giro d’Italia prematurely due to Corona. Wout van Aert, Tom Pidcock and Peter Sagan are also there. The latter, like the Swiss Michael Schär, will stop after this season and will start in the Tour de Suisse for the last time.

The two Thurgau riders Stefan Küng and Stefan Bissegger are fully focused on the battle against the clock. The great Swiss hopes for the overall victory are Gino Mäder and Marc Hirschi. The last Swiss overall winner was Fabio Cancellara 14 years ago. These teams are expected to start with these drivers:
