“I love skiing!” Speed specialist Manuel Schmid (30) begins his notice of resignation. The decision was “very, very difficult” for him.
“After many injuries, I can no longer give 100 percent physically,” Schmid justifies the dismissal. The German’s career was marked by injuries.
At a young age he had to take a break for two and a half years after the 2012/13 season. At the time, Schmid was suffering from patellar tip syndrome — a painful irritation at the lower pole of the kneecap.
And also in preparation for last season, Schmid injured his hand badly in the training camp. He achieved his best result in Wengen with 13th place in the 2020 downhill.
However, the brother of parallel world champion Alexander Schmid (28) wants to remain faithful to skiing: “When one door closes, others open to it”. (jsl)
