Miyu Kato is still struggling with her doubles disqualification.

The disqualification of Miyu Kato (28), who accidentally hit a ball girl, and her doubles partner Aldila Sutjiadi (28, Indo) at the French Open has caused quite a stir. Two days after the incident, the decision is still being discussed.

Monday evening there was good news for the Japanese. Kato won the mixed quarterfinals with her partner Tim Pütz (35, Germany) against the Brazilian duo Luisa Stefani/Rafael Matos 7:6 (7:5), 6:2.

Kato leaves the press conference

Despite the good result, Kato is worried after the victory. At the post-game press conference, she didn’t come up with an answer, rubbed her eyes and left the room in tears. Mixed partner Pütz then only answered questions from the press.

The German explains to “Eurosport” that Kato’s disqualification is still shocking: “This morning (on Monday, editor’s note) it was still resolved and not in good shape”.

“Bury the Demons”

On the field, however, Miyu Kato showed a strong game. “So much the better that she played such a good game. She played great, as if nothing had happened,” Pütz praised his mixed partner after the game. For the German, the disqualification was excessive.

Pütz now hopes that the mixed games will help Kato and that she can “bury the demons” by defeating the Brazilian duo. Because the match was also played on court 14, the same place as the day before Kato’s disqualification. (jsl)
