This scene is heating up emotions at this year’s French Open in Paris. Miyu Kato and Aldila Sutjiadi (Indonesia) are eliminated in doubles in the middle of the second set – due to disqualification.

In the eighth final match against the Czech-Spanish duo Marie Bouzkova/Sara Sorribes Tormo, the Japanese Kato plays a ball over the net after a completed point and hits a ball girl in the neck. Kato apologizes to the tearful teen.

Memories of the incident with Djokovic

Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo alerted the chair umpire to the incident, who initially only issued a warning. However, the supervisor who joined later shows no mercy and decides: Kato and Sutjiadi lose forfeit. That’s exactly what happened to Novak Djokovic at the 2020 US Open when he hit a linesman.

The verdict that has now been passed in Paris is too harsh for Rob Koenig. “It looks like she (Miyu Kato, editor’s note) throws the ball to the ball kid to catch. Roger (Federer, editor’s note) used to do that. The ball kid catches it and there’s applause. It’s too bad the opponents asked for a disqualification,” said the tennis commentator. During the discussions on the field, cameras capture Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo sitting on their couch with a smile on their face. The duo won the first set in the tiebreak and fell behind with a break in the second.

The disqualification is also too heavy for Alex Corretja. The Eurosport expert says: “The ball was slow and didn’t do any damage. You have to respect the decision, but it wasn’t serious enough for me. I feel for the girl, but for me it wasn’t enough for a disqualification.” (yup)
