Yeremay, the Canarian magic that could get the semi-finals back on track

Author: Cesar Quian

He was the subject of a penalty that was not awarded for a tackle on Calavera, who already had a yellow card

Yeremay Hernández went from being at the bottom of the team to becoming a starter and main player for Deportivo in just a few weeks. The man who picks up Riazor every time he makes contact with the ball, uses a subtle touch to move it away from his defender and initiates a rip. Against Castellón he was also the protagonist, apart from his game, as he was the target of a penalty that could have made it 2-0 for the team. A blow that also required him to ask for change.

“I will train to be a better soccer player, not just to show that I have to play.” These are the words that Yeremay Hernández said to Óscar Can, in a private conversation with the then coach of Deportivo. The Canary hardly enjoyed the performances with either of the first two technicians of the season, and decided to work in the shadows, at least to serve him in the long run. His role was so secondary that he had barely 254 minutes, going through day 36.

The green jump option that came to him with Rubén de la Barrera. The coach from A Coruña gave him a starting position in his debut, against Algeciras, and the Canarian reciprocated with a great game, rounded off with a brilliant goal. Against Pontevedra, days later, he played 90 minutes for the first time in the league since Alondras-Fabril last season (November 14, 2021). And against Castellón he was one of the best in the team in the 65 minutes he played. On the right wing, he enchanted his lucky ones against Manu Sánchez, whom he exasperated when he was on the field. He brought Riazor to his feet with a change of pace he made in the first half, which allowed him to stand alone against Alfonso Pastor. His heel shot crashed into the body of the visiting goalkeeper.

Controversy

But without a doubt, Yeremay’s action that marked the match was the one in the 61st minute. After a brilliant individual move from the left wing, Yeremay entered the area and was brought down by a clear shot from Josep Calavera, who arrived late to help from your partner. The former athlete received a yellow card, which he saw in the 21st minute after another step on three-quarters of the field, this time on his friend Marijo Soriano.

While Riazor cried out for injustice, already from the field, Yeremay made a gesture of change. Calavera’s tackle damaged his ankle. Rubén de la Barrera reacted immediately and took the place of Kike Saverio, who had already been warming up for a few minutes in the Riazor band with Isi Gómez and Trilli. His end marked the beginning of Dépor’s worst moments in the game.
