French striker Karim Benzema will not continue next season at Real Madrid, the white club confirmed this Sunday, ending 14 seasons in a Real Madrid shirt.
“Real Madrid CF and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to end his brilliant and unforgettable period as a player for our club. Real Madrid wants to show its gratitude and all its commitment to one who is already one of our greatest legends,” the Madrid club announced in an extensive statement.
In his 14 seasons as a Real Madrid player since joining the club in 2009 from Olympique de Lyon, the player has won a record 25 titles for Real Madrid: five Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, four leagues, three The King’s Cup and four Spanish Super Cups.
The French striker is currently the Ballon d’Or and UEFA Player of the Year, and has also been named in the FIFA FIFPRO Eleven and won the Pichichi Trophy 2022. He is also the fifth most capped player with 647 appearances and is Real’s second all-time top scorer time with 353 goals. He is also the team’s second all-time top scorer in the League and European Cup; the fourth top scorer in the history of the Champions League and the fourth top scorer in the history of the League.
