After fan insults: Sion player must be stopped by police

A scene shows all the tension that prevails at FC Sion. Wallis are on the brink of relegation after losing the first leg of Barrage 2-0 to SLO at Tourbillon on Saturday.

When the players get back on their bus, they are met by several hundred fans. They lined up behind the barrier, most of them very upset. And the cheers are mingled with insults. “Tear yourself for the sweater or fuck off,” sing some attendees.

Several players try to referee

Musa Araz or Giovanni Sio, among others, are trying to calm things down. A corridor has been blocked off for the time being and the police have to come to the rescue.

Sion defender Nathanaël Saintini loses his nerve from the verbal peaks: he answers several people from the audience and becomes aggressive. It takes intervention from his teammates to get Saintini to obey and move towards the car.

One insult too many

But that’s not all: he’s already standing in the doorway when a man approaches him and accuses him of his alleged preference for fast food. Nathanaël Saintini can no longer bear this umpteenth remark. He charges down and tries to climb over the barrier – looking for a direct confrontation.

Two police officers must stop the defender and use force to prevent Saintini from moving forward. Now members of the Zion Staff rush in and finally manage to bring Number 39 to reason.

Everything will be decided on Tuesday

For the away game at the Pontaise on Tuesday (8.30 p.m.), FC Sion has its back against the wall in the barrage. A win by at least two goals is needed to avoid the club’s fourth relegation in history. The damage seems done – the frustration runs deep.
