Esther Friedli was elected to the small chamber on April 30. Immediately afterwards it was clear that the Tübacher municipal chairman and SVP cantonal councilor Michael Götte would slip into the large room for them. Götte is 43 years old and head of cantonal politics at the St. Gallen-Appenzell Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The 52-year-old Genevan SVP politician Thomas Bläsi slips in place of Yves Nidegger, who wants to concentrate on his position as SVP faction leader in the cantonal parliament after his election to the Grand Council of Geneva. Bläsi is a pharmacist by profession and lives in Geneva.
Esther Friedli (SVP/SG) will be sworn in later Tuesday in the Council of States. She was elected to the small chamber on April 30 and takes over the seat from SP veteran Paul Rechsteiner, who resigned in December.
