Feared violence: news service warns of radical climate movement

Climate activists always cause a stir, most recently Tuesday at Geneva airport.

Roadblocks, property damage and stabbings in busy streets. The climate activists want to draw attention and draw attention to the growing threat of climate change. One way or the other.

The Swiss Federal Intelligence Service apparently follows the movement with some concern, the CH Media newspapers write. “It is likely that part of this scene will radicalize in the coming years if their demands are not heard in the political process,” the FIS says. “Some will cross the line of violence.”

The pressure on climate glue is increasing
FDP Burkart against climate glue
“You are just acting criminally”
Climate stickers jeopardize the law
“You can’t do more damage to the environment”
“Treat Like Terrorists”
SVP National Council calls for jail time for climate glue

Hardly any violence so far

So far, however, hardly any violence has been used, the news service continues. The climate movement is not a criminal organization either. There were house searches in Germany this week. The activists are accused of supporting a criminal organization and spending 1.4 million euros (equivalent to CHF 1.36 million) on crime.

The ideological background of an organization is not sufficient for the intelligence service to take preventive action, write the CH-Media newspapers. Jurisdiction requires a specific identifiable reference to violence.

Politically, too, an increasingly stronger wind is blowing against the climate activists. FDP chairman Thierry Burkart (47) or SVP national councilor Mike Egger (30) recently called for more criminal prosecution of climate activists. (brother)
