The Swiss foreign minister pointed out that the Russian offensive war in Ukraine has recently claimed almost half of all civilian deaths worldwide. “That is absolutely unacceptable,” Berset said before a meeting of the UN Security Council.

Switzerland, which is chairing the panel this month, focuses the debate on improving food security in conflict-affected areas. More than 200 million people suffer acute hunger, 70 percent of them in war zones.

According to Berset, the debate should show the UN Security Council what it can do to further strengthen the protection of the civilian population. “We have all the tools and resolutions,” Berset told media representatives.
