Who gets the climate ad?

Is the Climate Act an important step towards CO₂ neutrality or just an expensive power guzzler? GLP National Councilor Martin Bäumle (58, ZH) and SVP National Councilor Monika Rüegger (55, OW) debate this question in the current Blick “vote battle”. The law aims to support individuals and companies investing in advanced and climate-friendly technologies with a total of 3.2 billion Swiss francs. On June 18, the draft – it is the counter-proposal to the “Glacier Initiative” – will be presented to the people.

According to a representative survey by the research institute GFS.Bern on behalf of SRG, 72 percent of the Swiss said yes to the climate protection law at the beginning of May. Only 25 percent of the nearly 12,000 respondents would have voted no. Only three percent are still unsure.

The SVP still wants to reverse this trend. The No camp around the SVP fears a costly weakening of the Swiss economy by “nonsensical bans” – for example, the alleged ban on internal combustion engines. In the yes camp, they dismiss it: the law knows no prohibitions – moreover, the consequences of doing nothing are much more expensive in the long term.

Who has the better arguments? Decide for yourself: today, Wednesday, from 6 p.m. Monika Rüegger and Martin Bäumle will be dueling argumentatively on Blick TV. Then vote for your favourite. The winning side of the duel of arguments sees a campaign ad.
