“Whoever rushes like that does not take his responsibility as a politician seriously”

The announced gender day at the Stäfa school had caused quite a stir.

Unfortunately, the term ‘gender’ is fraught, said Zurich education director Silvia Steiner (65, center) Friday afternoon in the Zurich-Schaffhausen regional magazine of Swiss radio SRF. It is about questions about equality or how to deal with sexuality. These are issues that the school needs to address, which is also foreseen in Curriculum 21.

Gender days have been held at the secondary school in Stäfa ZH for ten years. These lessons had previously hardly caused a stir – but this year it erupted on social media. After threats and telephone terror against school staff, the Stäfner School canceled the gender day next Monday at short notice.

Steiner attacks Glarner

Steiner criticized on the radio that Aargau National Councilor Andreas Glarner (60) had called for the resignation of the school management on Twitter and had published the Gender Day invitation along with a visible mobile number of a school social worker.

“Whoever engages in this kind of agitation and publishes personal data does not take his responsibility as a politician seriously.” This is all the more concerning because it’s happening to the same person a second time, and “again without knowing the facts,” Steiner said. If you had informed yourself, you would have seen that the event in Stäfa was good.

Glarner follows suit

Opponents of Gender Day do not believe this and write on social networks about “indoctrination in schools”. Glarner also tweeted on Friday that the invitation featured the logo of the transgender community and that the children were addressed with a gender star. Since participation in the event is mandatory, he has made this invitation public. “We parents entrust our children to school.”

Stäfa high school wants to hold Gender Day again in the future, next time under a different name. (SDA)
