In three years there will be a shortage of up to 50,000 apartments throughout Switzerland. Nationally, the so-called vacancy rate is currently 1.3 percent.
Two-thirds of cities and urban communities lack housing space, the Federal Housing Service (BWO) announced last week. The cities see a “high to very high” need for action.
So it is high time to develop widely supported solutions for the housing shortage. The Bundesrat wants to have a dialogue about this. Minister of Economic Affairs Guy Parmelin (63, SVP) therefore invites people to a round table discussion on housing shortage on Friday.
Representatives from cantons, municipalities and the construction and real estate sector will be present. The tenants’ association will also be present.
Several topics are on the agenda, including shortening objection periods and priority rights for communities. Ideas for densification and usage regulations for new buildings should also be discussed.
However, practical solutions will not result from this. The federal government says the first thing to do is to hear all concerns and get a “common view on the challenge,” as the BWO announced this week. (Okay)
