It also concerns service companies that are active in the field of auditing, receivership or tax advice. This is evident from the statement of the Bundesrat on Wednesday.

According to the Bundesrat, a new article in the national ordinance on labor law should allow employees “with project work and time-critical assignments” to work for a period of 17 hours per day in certain situations instead of the previous 14 hours. In addition, the daily rest period can be reduced from 11 to 9 hours several times a week. This flexibility is especially important in project teams with participants from different countries, writes the Federal Council.

Including breaks and overtime

The 17 hours cannot be regarded as pure working time, as stated by the State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (Seco) at the request of Keystone-SDA. It is rather the case that you can work 17 hours. Breaks and overtime are included here.

The amendment to the regulation stems from a parliamentary initiative by the former Lucerne Council of States, Konrad Graber. It will enter into force on July 1, 2023.
