Ruag’s boss is in trouble

Ruag boss Brigitte Beck has difficulty with controversial statements about the arms debate.

The right-wing conservative camp is in turmoil. “Ruag boss has to go!” reads the title of the Pro Switzerland organization in a press release. Reason for the resignation: Ruag boss Brigitte Beck made controversial statements on stage last week that got her into trouble. She called on Spain and Germany to supply Swiss arms to Ukraine and thus lift Swiss neutrality, as “CH Media” reports.

The federal army supplier Ruag now wants to scrutinize the boss’s controversial statements and announces internal investigations. The Board of Directors is not happy with the current situation, says Chairman of the Board of Directors Nicolas Perrin to “CH Media”.

Politicians are angry

The statements will also be discussed in the Security Policy Committee of the National Council. Its chairman, SVP National Councilor Mauro Tuena (51), wants to raise this during the next meeting with Defense Minister Viola Amherd (60). Tuena criticizes that it is unacceptable for the head of a state-owned company to publicly call for breach of contract and the law, thereby undermining Switzerland’s official position. Beck would have to resign if she made another mistake like that.

For Pro Switzerland, the successor to the campaign for an independent and neutral Switzerland, the pain threshold has already been crossed. “The Bundesrat and parliament have repeatedly confirmed the legal basis for the disclosure ban,” the organization writes. Beck was “no longer acceptable” as Ruag boss and had to be replaced.

For the pro-Switzerland president Stephan Rietiker (66) it is clear: “The board of directors of Ruag must intervene immediately, otherwise Ruag risks becoming an accomplice to lawbreakers.”

Debate on Lex Ukraine

Beck’s statements are tinder in the debate over arms supplies to Ukraine and a corresponding Lex Ukraine. There are initiatives in parliament that want to relax the current restrictions so that countries such as Spain or Germany can pass on weapons produced in Switzerland to Ukraine. (Russian)
