Center National Councilor Philipp Kutter (47) does not want to be defeated. Although he has been paralyzed since a serious skiing accident, he still wants to hold on to his candidacy for the Council of States. Zürcher Mitte co-chair, Nicole Barandun, told Tele Züri.
He will have to stay in Nottwil for a few more months, but he will be fit for the start of the legislature in the autumn. He will participate in or be involved in major panel events.
Kutter (47) fell on the ski slope in early February and broke two cervical vertebrae. Since then he has been treated at the spinal cord injury center in Nottwil LU. He has incomplete quadriplegia, he said in an interview with the “Tages-Anzeiger” in March. Paralysis affects not only the legs and trunk, but also the arms and internal organs. Kutter is dependent on a wheelchair.
“We are extremely happy that Philipp Kutter is participating anyway,” says Nicole Barandun. She is confident that Kutter is an accomplished politician and will overcome the handicap.
The man from Zurich, who is also mayor of Wädenswil ZH, had already announced in March that he absolutely wanted to return to the Federal Palace. “Of course it would be nice to return as a pedestrian,” says Kutter. “If that doesn’t work, I’ll do it rolling!” (lha)
