Instead of cutting jobs, SRF is hiring

SRG director Nathalie Wappler (55) announced the job losses at SRF at the end of 2021.

Swiss radio and television (SRF) should actually cut jobs. By the end of 2023, 145 full-time jobs must disappear. At least that is what SRG director Nathalie Wappler (55) announced at the end of 2021. The reality is different: SRF has gained 42 full-time jobs instead of saving.

As the 2022 annual report of the Swiss Radio and Television Company (SRG) reveals, radio and television employ 2,275 full-time jobs. Last year there were 2317 jobs.

layoffs stopped

As Guy Luginbühl (48), CFO at SRF, told the “Aargauer Zeitung”, the announced layoffs did not come: “The originally announced layoffs for 2023 have been suspended.” The company is in a process of transformation and therefore needs to create more jobs in technology. Nevertheless, SRF had achieved the savings targets by the end of 2022. Details about this cannot be found in the annual report.

In politics, news of the prophesied job cuts, which are actually a buildup, is sour. “The commitments of the SRF leadership were and probably will never be justified in business terms, but only politically and tactically to have peace,” Gerhard Pfister (60), chairman of the center, told the “Aargauer Zeitung”. However, this is nothing new to him.

Initiative wants to reduce TV rates

FDP national councilor Christian Wasserfallen (41) sees confirmation that the SRF management’s lack of willingness to save speaks for the acceptance of the “200 francs initiative”. Signatures are currently being collected for the reduction of radio and television rates. This means that the TV allowance per household will fall from CHF 335 to CHF 200 and that the allowance for companies will be abolished altogether. (lazy)
