How premiums will develop next year depends on many factors, said Berset of the “SonntagsZeitung” when asked about the rise in healthcare costs. Ongoing healthcare costs are not the only factor, he said in an interview published Sunday.
According to health insurer Santésuisse, healthcare costs have already risen by 7.5 percent per capita in the first two months of the year. “The result is a further increase in premiums,” said Verena Nold, director of the association, in an interview with “SonntagsBlick” in early April. She criticized the political premium set by the Federal Council last year as insufficient.
“We are doing everything in our power in the Federal Council to curb health care costs,” Berset said. But cost-cutting measures would struggle in Parliament because the many actors often protect each other. “If we don’t all work together, we won’t get healthcare costs under control,” he said. (SDA)
