A private individual had informed the Federal Data Protection Commissioner (EDÖB) and the National Center for Cyber Security (NCSC) that the database had no access control, a statement showed on Friday. This report in November 2022 was the reason for the investigations.

The health data stored came from private Covid-19 testing centers with multiple locations. The individual who reported the incident had gained access to the database through a vulnerability in the web server and downloaded a copy of the existing data.

On the same day, the database was removed from the server. The person responsible was able to prove that no further unauthorized access had taken place, writes the Edöb.
