Vivienne Huber wants to join the National Council for the young SVP – and is attacked sexist on Twitter.

It should have been a regular campaign post, as many do these days. But when Vivienne Huber (21) of the young SVP on Twitter with the slogan “Outside modern, core conservative” she reaps massive misogyny, writes “20 minutes”. “Can ducks be elected to the National Council at all?” can be read, among other things.

“I don’t take such statements personally. Still, this sexism shocked me,” Vivienne Huber told Blick. in private messages and personal conversations. For Huber it is clear: “In politics you need a thick skin.”

Explosive: Some tweets well below the belt also come from people who, according to their profile description, tend to belong to the left-wing camp. Most hide behind anonymous profiles.

The SP also condemns sexism

But the hate speech against the young SVP woman is also not well received by the political opponent SP. Florin Schütz (26), responsible for social media at SP Switzerland, reacted indignantly. He condemns the body shaming and sexism Huber experiences on Twitter. “The comment column is absolute hell.”

“I condemn sexism, whatever political camp it comes from. There is no justification for that,” said former Juso chairman Ronja Jansen (28) to “20 minutes”. SP alderman Tamara Funiciello (33) says that almost all women are victims of sexist expressions in public. “Women are not yet as strongly represented in politics as their male colleagues. If you change that, they will also be perceived differently.”

Bundesrat wants stricter rules

However, stricter regulations against hate speech are not necessary, according to Vivienne Huber: “A free society must be able to tolerate something. There is no need for regulation, but practice decency and respect.”

But one thing is clear: Huber is not the first politician to be hit by hate speech online. The Federal Council is also considering how to regulate Google, Facebook and Twitter. Users of the platforms are in a weak position today. However, it will probably be a few more years before the template is ready. (brother)
