The army has to search a pasture after the exercise

class=”sc-3778e872-0 cKDKQr”>

Members of the military search the Napf area for remains of the Flares decoys dropped by an Armasuisse helicopter.

In the Napf area of Central Switzerland, Flares decoys were ejected from a Cougar helicopter on April 18 in an attempt to reach 2,000 meters above sea level, as Armasuisse wrote. Two days later, a farmer reported thin, burnt black metal plates on his pasture.

After a damage assessor from the Defense Department assessed the situation, members of the army went out on Tuesday to search the area for remains. According to Armasuisse, endangering farm animals should be avoided as much as possible. In addition, a preliminary witness hearing before the military judiciary was requested.

Flares decoys are used to deflect missiles with an infrared seeker head, which control hot engines or fighter jet or helicopter engines. They burn at such a high temperature that they deflect the rocket.

The Air Force uses flare decoys on F-5 fighter jets (Tigers), F/A-18 fighter jets, and Cougar helicopters.
